Deciding to become a social media creator is an exciting and ambitious journey. The world of content creation offers a vast array of possibilities—from long-form videos on YouTube to quick snippets on TikTok, or writing blogs to building a website and everything in between.

With so many avenues to explore, it can be overwhelming to determine where to start.

The Starting Point: Define Your Goal

The foundation of successful content creation lies in knowing your goal. Why do you want to become a creator? Understanding this will help you make informed and intentional decisions that align with your objectives.

If you're unsure about your goal, or just want to refine it, I have a video that dives deeper into this topic.

My Journey: From Overwhelmed to Organized

When I first started, I tried to do everything at once—videos, blogs, Pinterest boards, email campaigns, you name it. This approach left me feeling overwhelmed and stuck.

However, once I actually implemented this one crucial tip, everything changed: focus on one thing at a time.

Here's how I applied this principle:

1. Identify the Main Goal: For me, the driving force behind becoming a creator was to share my knowledge and experiences while making it my full-time income.

2. Work Backwards: After defining my main goal, I created a plan to work backwards from it.

This is a very individualized project to do, so this post will walk you through my thoughts to help you get started.

Phase 1: Consistent Content Creation

The first phase of my plan was to establish a consistent content creation schedule. Over the course of  the first three months of this plan, I aimed to:

- Post regular content

- Create a backlog of content for future use

- Get monetized on YouTube

- Clarify my content vision

By focusing solely on content creation, I’ll be able to build a solid foundation for my business. This was essential because my audience needs to see that I can deliver on the advice I give.

Phase 2: Developing Offers

With this steady flow of content, the next focus is creating offers—products, services, or client packages that would generate income.

This phase is planned for three months as well, during which I’ll continue to maintain my consistent content creation efforts.

Batch creating content in the first phase is what will allow me to dedicate time to developing these offers without neglecting my audience.

Phase 3: Building the Website

The third phase was to create a website to house my offers and serve as a hub for my business. Although website building isn't my strong suit, the plan to complete this phase is three months. My website would feature my offers and blogs, ensuring that everything was in one place.

That’s the next 9 months, and I have even more ideas that I want to put into motion at some point but that’s enough planning, now it’s time for action!I still jot down ideas when I become really inspired!

Additional Content Types

While my primary focus was on videos and offers, I didn't completely ignore other forms of content like emails, Pinterest, blogs, or podcasts. I planned to incorporate these elements gradually, once my core goals were achieved. For example, I create email campaigns specifically for my downloadable offers, adding value for my audience when it’s needed.

Staying Focused and Organized

Planning is key. By mapping out the big picture and breaking it into manageable phases, I could stay focused and avoid distractions. This approach prevented me from switching tasks too often, ensuring that I made consistent progress.

Tips for Aspiring Creators

1. Clarity and Honesty: Be clear with yourself about what you want from content creation and be honest about the time you can commit.

2. Brain Dumping: Regularly jot down all your ideas and thoughts to keep your mind clear and organized.

3. Play to Your Strengths: Focus on what you're good at and what you enjoy.

Creating content is a dynamic and evolving process. It's okay, in fact it’s encouraged, to adjust your plans as you go along. The important thing is to focus on one thing at a time to make real moves.
